Courses Available to Learn Abacus

The Hadley School for the Blind offers free distance education courses to legally blind persons, their family members, and blindness professionals or paraprofessionals who can read and understand courses written at the high school level. "Abacus I" is one of those courses. Using the abacus a person can add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers and decimals. After successfully completing the course, the abacus and a manual are for the student to keep. This course is available in braille, cassette or large print.

An "Abacus II" course is available to learn to compute fractions, percents, quantities, square roots, and negative numbers. It is available in braille and cassette.

High School math (with High School credit) courses for blind students are also available in the following areas: "Essentials of Mathematics I," "Essentials of Mathematics II," "Mathematics I - General," "Mathematics II - Pre-Algebra," "Applied Mathematics," "Algebra," "Geometry," and "Doing It the Metric Way."
